Sasha Van Schalkwyk (b. 1995, Boulder, CO) is a fine artist who graduated with her BFA in painting from The Savannah College of Art and Design in 2018. Her minimalistic figurative work spans an array of mediums and focuses on the personification of the spiritual, inanimate, cultural, and historical, as well as the everyday. Van Schalkwyk seeks to capture dynamic and dramatic energy in the formal elements she utilizes and is a strong proponent of individualism. Sasha's background in film and theatre has contributed greatly to the theatrical qualities and characterization evident in her studio practice. She has exhibited her work in Atlanta, GA and Savannah, GA (Raw Artists Present: Atlanta, PHILOPHOBIA, SCAD Open Studio Fall 2017 Exhibition, SCAD BFA Exhibition 2018, There, Their, They're.) Van Schalkwyk was a studio assistant for Seattle, WA based sculptor John Grade during the construction of his sculpture "Middle Fork," featured at the Smithsonian, The Seattle Art Museum, and the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland. Sasha currently lives and works in Savannah, GA.
